A quarter being demolished
The best-documented part of Kubinka's history is its disappearance.
Since the 2010s Baku has been clearing old quarters for new development and landscaping — after the Sovetskaya and Alatava districts, Kubinka's turn has come.
What is being built
On Amirbekov, Abdullayev, Mammadguluzade, Nakhchivani, and Salayev streets, the developer RR Construction is putting up the "Imperial Residence" residential complex — more than ten high-rise blocks for over a thousand families.
What the city is losing
Along with the walls goes a way of life: the courtyards, the neighbourliness, the place names, the living fabric of old Baku. That is why we are gathering this memory — while there is still something to record.
